Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 9-10-11 Markina -Munitibar- Gernika- BilBoa

Well I made it, not so bad but still lots of steep uphills and downhills. My back is hurting but all else is well… ok so I am tired too, but well as can be. Views were great walking thru forest and hills with small rivers but the steep downhill was rough on my knee and cyborg turtle actually gave out —— she actually broke a strap and at one point was around my ankle coming down hill so with my Janeguyver skill (example Macgiver) I managed to patch it together but I don’t think it will make it up and down hill another day without serious fixing. I had some…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 12.14 Balboa and Bilboa-Portugulete

Urban jungle walking So what am I to lean here? Unlike most due to a head injury the military I don’t have a visual memory. I can’t see pictures in my head. I walk and I can only see what’s in front of me, as I walk I try to generate thought but I have difficulty so I just try to enjoy the here and now. Yes I’m having trouble enjoying this concrete but as I am tempted to nip this stage as it is literally hell on heelsperricus I am reminded that maybe it’s a lesson in patience. As I travel the endless kilometers and miles of urban concrete…

I seem to be having bad luck this trip or it’s trying to tell me something.I dropped in to Laredo what a nice little beach town. After trying to eat today I felt it was no use, although I tried, I had no appetite so I Bought some cranberry juice and water at the market with some small snacks and walked back…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 17 Laredo to Santona just across the bay

Easter Sunday in Santona I missed the parade for Palm Sunday but the town was so alive with activity I didn’t notice. I took the longer ferry Paseos en Barco across the bay out of Laredo harbor. Most pilgrims take the ferry at the other end of the beach but i was staying in Santona today trying to meet up with a fellow camino forum member. I didn’t find the peregrino so I settled in to my room above a bar in the center of town. I should have researched better…it’s Easter and the night is long and loud. All the local were walking with tree branches some decorated with…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 18 Santona to San Miguel De Merulo

Wow what a hot muggy and humid day. I think it would rain but no such relief. Endless miles /km of concrete but really beautiful country side. Few pilgrims today in fact only one from Denmark not sure the distance but I think more than 13 km maybe 15 or 16. My energy is back but my day ended early due to heel pain. Heelsperricus started cursing towards the end but made it ok . I suspect tomorrow will be much the same . I took some alternatives to the regular Camino route avoided a scramble uphill in Barria all an all a quiet day. Ended at Hosteria Del Sol…
