Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 3 Physio – Rest and Recovery in San Sebastián

Yeah I know I just started and crap happens but I expected this so I’m not yet defeated. No training, on crutches and an inability to walk for 8 months has shown it’s an ugly side but it’s just a momentary pit stop…no I’m not quitting and yes I will make it to Santiago de Compostella. What does not kill you makes one more defiant and more determined. Another night in La Serena albergue- great albergue/hostel wonderful staff. This place is clean and organized closed to everything but, of course, it’s on a hill. it has a kitchen and laundry and areas to relax also it’s close to supermarkets and…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 4 San Sebastián to Zarautz

Finally, I’m leaving San SebastiánI had itchy feet. No not from athletes foot but from caminiitis… I feel the urge to walk but my feet are holding me back so another short day . I make a reservation at hostel blai blai .. the hospitelero seems nice already he contacted me to learn of my arrival. I was anxious to leave the city behind and dust off some of the concrete but seems some concrete is inevitable on this Camino but balanced with beautiful sea views it’s not too bad. It’s another beautiful day nice to sit on the beach but a lot of sun for walking. Last night I…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 5 Zarautz to Getaria back to Zarautz Coastal Route

As told by the hospitelero, the last weeks were cold so with that in the past a little sun now bring everyone out to take advantage. Few pilgrims have seen today though maybe 2 including the 2 in the hostel Blai Blai. Stunning…

Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 8 Rain and Rest in Deba Markena

I didn’t sleep well last night and I was hurting. Especially my back, and heelspurricus was raging of course, so much so that I couldn’t walk last night. My back could be the rain but either way I’m happy it’s an off day. I heard the toughest stage was to Markena but I didn’t believe it until I was on the bus and the female bus driver to Ondarroa said the same thing. She was happy to practice English and i happy for local information. I then switched busses to get to Markina and it was raining so I was a little happy .. but sad at the same time…

Spain,Camino Del Norte: Day 6-7 Zarautz to Zumaia on the GR and Zumaia to Deba on the GR

Rain and the sign said 2 hours that was 4 hours ago. Maybe it’s possible if you are a mountain goat but I a mere turtle might be longer with rocks and rain .. slippery. MUD -/-clay omg ???? that’s all I’m gonna say. In the in military I was told to make the best of any disadvantage so I try …I see the views ignore the pain for a minute at least. Tip: tighten your laces for the climb or else you will get toe blisters and possible black toe nails . With the bad knees going down hill….,Lean back take the first step with the affected knee at a…
