Flight Canx -Stuck in London Gatwick Airport for 24hours – Tips -How to Get Into the City

Firstly there are several hotels attached to the terminals at Gatwick Airport, London if ncessary you dont need to sleep on the floor.my airline paid for my hotel, because my flight was cancelled I have an extra day (24hrs) what do I do now?

From Gatwick airport it is very easy to get into the city. Follow the signs for the train, its downstairs, and as you come into the main hall you will see the ticket machines several available agents to help you. You can purchase at the machine, for example a day ticket or single trip ticket choose London bridge to get you in the the thick of things or choose London Victoria for a more varied choice. I took the train to the London bridge stop.

I got off the train walked outside, do not worry trains leave often so no opportunity to get lost . You can use your card to pay or choose Apple Pay, it seem to be the preferred choice and the easiest and fastest. Take your ticket and look at the displays for the correct platform or ask the attendant. Walk to the ticket turnstile, slide the ticket into the machines with the magnetic bar facing down and do not forget to retrieve the ticket…head downstairs, find the platform board the train. It’s that easy 30 mins you are in London. The trains also display the stops on board and calls are then heard overhead on the speaker. Do not loose your ticket, you may need then to exit the station and if it’s a day ticket you need them to get back to the airport. On the way back if you need to purchase another single ticket repeat the same process at the ticket window or the machine, looking for the airport as your destination.

Now as to transport around the city . You can use taxi – but you can opt for the Many hop on hop off buses. For approx $40-43 usd I think it a viable option get a day pass or pay a little more get the river cruise included. The bus city loop last about 2 hrs. On the RED line take you the length of the city around and maps are everywhere including on the bus. There are also translatios with headphones available in multinple languages. You can ride all day get on and off as many times as you like at indicated stops around the city. You can see everything on one ticket and tickets may offer discounts to some other tourist attractions. I use this option as it is a good way to see everything the. I can choose where I want to walk and when I’m done get back in the bus. You can pay on line or at the bus or at the bus stop.

You can see some of tourist popular the attractions in this video as seen from the bus but unfortunately not Buckingham palace the road was blocked for the changing of the guards at the time I was on the bus so we took an alternate street.

TIPS: When visiting London if needed you can get pounds directly from any ATM in the airport at the bank rate or use your card many places prefer cashless option. A jacket, water resistance if possible is a must and be mindful to keep your belongings locked and close to you due to large crowds and pickpockets, remember to always have a plan and an exit. The city is very safe, but it’s still a city. Lastly, being stuck In the airport with a cancelled flight can be frustrating but remember to have fun 🤩 why not make the best of it and enjoy your travels.
