Spain, Camino Del Norte: Day 8 Rain and Rest in Deba Markena
I didn’t sleep well last night and I was hurting. Especially my back, and heelspurricus was raging of course, so much so that I couldn’t walk last night. My back could be the rain but either way I’m happy it’s an off day. I heard the toughest stage was to Markena but I didn’t believe it until I was on the bus and the female bus driver to Ondarroa said the same thing. She was happy to practice English and i happy for local information. I then switched busses to get to Markina and it was raining so I was a little happy .. but sad at the same time no walk today plan is to look for physio in town. Heelspurricus was back with a vengeance today but cyborg turtle seemed quiet after yesterday’s walk .. the TENS unit and the Sombra crime are working and it worked on heelspurricus enough that I could walk this morning. Good breakfast at the pension Zumardi and one foot out the door yup rain. I like walking in the rain because this means cool weather but also means slippery so it’s ok I will stop trying to feel guilty about the bus and the rest days. One thing about injury is one must learn to know and accept pain but also accept and know your limits.. yes I could go on today but at what cost.. walking alone I don’t need another injury. My asthma wasn’t too bad yesterday… oh I didn’t mention I have asthma too, well we all have problems but trying to rise above… rise higher, fly and soar.
I found physio but there were quite busy so I went to the tourist office got my stamp and walked backward so on the camino to the football field where the owner of Casa rural/albergue Intxauspe picked me up as it’s quite a distance from the camino. Nice old farm, nice owners. I watched the rain fall between arguing for 1.5 hours with T-Mobile then cancelling my data service on my tablet. It never worked so why pay for it. The owner who cooked me dinner, a lovely bean soup, chicken fillet and fries , wine , water and yougert. I was starving so I ate it as if I had been roaming the desert for 40 days. That it for today except I just heard thunder and lightening…happy to sleep in tomorrow.
