Portsmouth, SouthSea and the Isle of Wight
A visit to historic Portsmouth, Southsea and the Isle of Wight, UK. Portsmouth is known for its historic dockyard and is home to the Royal Navy. So much history and so much to do here. If you are into maritime history this is the place. The dockyard is populated with well known ships which played pivotal roles in naval history. Her majesty’s majestic warships such as the HMS warrior the only surviving ship from a significant WW1 campaign, Vice- Lord Admiral Nelsons HMS Victory, the submarine Alliance and the Mary Rose museum which shows the 400 year hull, a Tudor relic rest here. This international ferry port and dock is indeed worth a visit but there is so much more. There is the Spinnaker Tower, The gun Wharf Quay with restaurants, pubs, shopping and night life and only 1 1/2 hr from London. You can take the ferry or take the only passenger Hovercraft in Europe over the Solent to visit the famous Needles on the Isle of Wight. This island has much to offer from excellent sandy beaches to fossil hunting or simply taking it easy. All in all a great place to visit. If not staying it is an excellent stop off point on the by which you can catch the international Ferry to Spain, France and Ireland and also located not far from the International cruise ship port in South Hampton. Whatever you choose…don’t stop traveling
