Spain, Camino Del Norte: Semana Santa (Easter week)- in Santander
Many people gather to watch the Easter procession on the Main Street of Santander. Seems like every family is here .. walking talking eating ice cream ..yeah it’s cold but ice cream seems to be more than cold it’s hot on a holiday. The music starts to play over the public speakers. I’m sitting just beyond the cathedral. It’s funny but I see several pilgrims wonder about with their giant mochilla no doubt searching for their hotel or albergue. They are so involved with walking they barely notice the gathering crowds. Their minds maybe set on the direction of travel. Last year I think I was the same but this year I’ve have vowed to stop and smell the roses. I’m in no hurry and I’m fully immersed in this experience .
My butt is frozen on this concrete seat but I’m comfy. I just want to see a little then go back to my room.. somehow today I’m feeling alone. I see families and friends milling about together and here I sit alone watching and I wonder what secrets the future holds for me . I am a wonderer and adventure seeker but I also long for stability. The traffic has stopped now and the music gets more somber you can tell the possession and ceremonies are about to begin. Seems a santa is serious business here it’s embedded in the traditions of Spain and its culture . The police are outnin force Ak’s at the ready
